Covid 19 has drastically changed the way we look at things and also how we do things. But most importantly they have completely redefined what we mean by self-care. Previously it used to be described as a nice bubble bath or a coffee break in your favorite cafe with a brownie or a blondie on the side. But now th conversation has shifted to how we take care of our physical health, mental health, and the most extreme specific like how and what type of medicine we get. We are about what we consume more than ever. This includes the hepatitis medicine in Malaysia to the anti-depressant we take.
First of all, perhaps the biggest change is how much energy we actually focus on proper self-care now that we are homebound. Previously we took the definition of self-care at fac value with self-care nights with our best friends. Now that we are homebound we are going deeper and increasing our focus on self-care regimens.
It s not only your average person who recognized the shift in our focus but also the businesses that are leading the self-care section and the health care industry. More and more industries are joining hands to provide better expressions of self-care, even including our insurance agencies. The precautions we take to avoid diseases and the need to educate ourselves for our self-care have given millions of opportunities for new businesses.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, so many businesses came up as the hero fighting against the complications of the virus. This included people who sold supplements, boosters, exercise equipment, and some crazy fanatic theories and products that completely lack any scientific groundwork. People were in their pants mode and were quick to scan their sources of information when it came to trusting people. For the sake of their own self-care and health, people rushed to the brands they trusted the most. For example, when it came to grocery shopping they ran to Walmart because it had better and bigger recognition and the brand has managed to create an already established relationship with them.
With self-care, products no longer came first but our health did. People started to consume more consciously for the sake of self-care. Meaning they cut out junk food, quit smoking, and start working on the betterment of themself. This has created a domino effect and the power of social media simply amplified the way we took care of ourselves. Also, taking care of our health was not only applied to people who were older as this was what was normal. Because of covid 19, there was much more awareness spread among the younger generation on how to take care of themselves. Various campaigns were held to ensure their safety and their mental health. It is an understatement to say that we have a long way to go before we can call it a success but there has been a drastic change in the number of young people who have taken up good self-care habits.
